The risks
Your site changes every month
This is the walk we do on the survey, and what we look at when we get there.
- 01
Your plant and materials
Copper, cable, tools and plant are portable, valuable, and on your site they often sit in the open overnight.
- 02
Keeping the public out
An open edge next to a pavement is a public safety problem for you as much as a security one.
- 03
Your site keeps moving
Compounds, gates and welfare units shift as your build progresses, so anything fixed has to move with them.
- 04
Your offices and stores
Your site office holds drawings, laptops and paperwork, and stores need limiting to the trades that actually use them.

Standards and guidance
The rules that apply
- Guidance
HSE: protecting the public
HSE guidance covers your duty to prevent unauthorised access to a construction site and to protect the public from site risks.
Read the guidance - Guidance
Secured by Design
The police-backed standard for designing out crime. On new build, specifying against it early is easier than retrofitting once the building is up.

Insurer requirements
Contract works policies often set minimum security for plant and materials. Bring the wording to the survey and we will design to it.
Can the system move as the site changes?
Yes. Cameras and readers can be relocated as compounds and gates move. We plan for that at survey.
Do you make gates to fit our hoarding?
Yes. Gates, barriers and railings are fabricated to size in our Edenbridge workshop, so they suit the opening and the hoarding you have.
Can the site system become the permanent one?
Often partly. Some equipment carries over to the finished building and some does not. We will tell you which at the design stage so you are not buying twice.
Do you do one-off steelwork on site?
Yes. Access ramps, platforms, barriers and bespoke items are part of the fabrication side of the business.
Why MerFen
One firm makes it, fits it and keeps it working
Most installers fit what a manufacturer sells them. We make the physical side ourselves, so the specification starts with the site.
