Bullet resistant glass
Specification
What you are getting
- Laminated glass and interlayers designed to absorb the energy of a round and contain it within the pane
- No-spall builds hold all fragments inside a polycarbonate layer; spall-allowed builds contain the projectile but let small fragments disperse
- Fire-resistant glazing can be combined in the build, giving 30 or 60 minutes in a single product
- Sound attenuation and a switchable interlayer, which turns the pane from opaque white to clear, are available
- Protection offered to BS 5051, BS EN 1522 and BS EN 1063, and to most recognised levels of resistance
Applications
Where it gets used
- Police front counters
- Cash offices
- Bank and building society counters
- Any counter where the assessment reaches firearms
What is the difference between spall and no-spall glass?
No-spall glass holds every fragment inside a polycarbonate layer on the protected side. Spall-allowed glass stops the round, but small fragments can break away. Where staff sit close behind the glass, specify no-spall.
Which standard should bullet-resistant glass meet?
We supply to BS EN 1063, BS EN 1522 and BS 5051. The right build comes from the threat level in your risk assessment, and EN 1522 rates the complete window or door rather than the glass alone.
Can bullet-resistant glass also be fire rated?
Yes. Fire-resistant glazing can be combined in the build, giving 30 or 60 minutes in a single product.
Can the glass give privacy?
Yes. A switchable interlayer turns the pane from opaque white to clear. Sound attenuation is also available.

One firm makes it, fits it and keeps it working
