The risks
Your layers, and the proof you kept them
This is the walk we do on the survey, and what we look at when we get there.
- 01
Your layers
Perimeter, reception, hall and cabinet each need their own permission, and they have to work without slowing your engineers down.
- 02
Tailgating
One badge, two people through your door is the oldest problem in the building, and the hardest to evidence afterwards.
- 03
Your contractors and visitors
Third parties are on your site constantly, and every visit needs authorising, escorting and recording.
- 04
Your auditor
Access logs, camera retention and maintenance records all get asked for, so your system has to produce evidence, not just work.
Security solutions
Security solutions we offer
From your gate to your rack. We walk the site first, then put the specification in writing.

Standards and guidance
The rules that apply
- Standard
ISO/IEC 27001 physical controls
The standard’s physical and environmental controls cover secure areas, entry controls, monitoring and equipment security. If you are certified, tell us at survey so the design produces the evidence your auditor expects.
- Standard
NPSA guidance
The National Protective Security Authority publishes guidance on layered physical security, access control and hostile reconnaissance for sites that matter.
- Guidance
ICO guidance on CCTV and video surveillance
Footage of staff, engineers and visitors is personal data. The ICO covers signage, retention and access requests.

FAQs
What facility and compliance teams ask
Something not covered here? Ring us and ask.
01732 926 352Can the system prove who went where, and when?
Yes. Access control logs every entry against a credential, and CCTV covering the same doors gives you the footage alongside it. Both can be exported for an audit or an investigation.
How do you handle contractors?
Credentials can be issued with an expiry, limited to specific doors and times, so a contractor badge stops working when the job ends.
Can you work with our existing access control?
Often, yes. We check what your platform supports at design stage, and tell you plainly if integration isn't possible.
Do you make the perimeter fencing too?
Yes. Fencing, gates and railings are fabricated in our Edenbridge workshop, so the perimeter and the electronics come from the same team.
Why MerFen
One firm makes it, fits it and keeps it working
Most installers fit what a manufacturer sells them. We make the physical side ourselves, so the specification starts with the site.
