The risks
Where your staff are exposed
This is the walk we do on the survey, and what we look at when we get there.
- 01
Violence at your counter
Reception, A&E and assessment put your staff face to face with people who are frightened, in pain or under the influence.
- 02
Your doors never close
Your entrances stay open through the night, when the building is quietest and your staffing is thinnest.
- 03
Your medicines and equipment
Drug stores, dispensaries and equipment rooms need controlled access and a record of who went in.
- 04
Your restricted wards
Maternity, paediatrics and mental health units need a controlled way in that does not hold up your clinical staff.
Security solutions
Security solutions we offer
From your front door to the ward. We walk the site first, then put the specification in writing.

EN356 and EN1063 glass
EN356 grades how well glass resists manual attack, such as hammers and axes. EN1063 grades bullet resistance. Most public counters are specified to EN356; EN1063 is for sites where a risk assessment identifies a firearms threat.
Will a screen make reception feel hostile?
Not if it's done well. Clear glazing, slim frames and speech transfer mean people talk normally, and the counter still feels open.
Do we need bullet-resistant glass in a hospital?
Usually not. Most healthcare counters are specified to EN356 to resist manual attack. EN1063 bullet resistance is for sites where a risk assessment identifies a firearms threat.
Can you fit around a department that never closes?
Yes. Work in live clinical areas is phased and normally done out of hours, agreed with the department beforehand.
Can patients pass notes and samples through?
Yes. Transfer trays and hatches let documents, medicines and samples pass through the counter without opening a door.
Why MerFen
One firm makes it, fits it and keeps it working
Most installers fit what a manufacturer sells them. We make the physical side ourselves, so the specification starts with the site.
